Call for Submissions
Anthology of Poetry, Prose, and Art from Northeast Alabama

North Meridian Press is excited to announce an open call for submissions for an anthology celebrating the diverse voices and artistic talents of individuals from Northeast Alabama. This collection will showcase poetry, prose, and visual art that reflect the unique culture, landscapes, and stories of this region.

We invite local writers, poets, and artists to contribute their works in the following categories:

Poetry: All styles and forms are welcome, including but not limited to free verse, haiku, narrative, etc.

Prose: Fiction, creative non-fiction, essays, and short stories that explore the personal, the regional, or the universal.

Visual Art: Original artwork in all mediums, including but not limited to photography, painting, drawing, and mixed media, that reflect the essence of Northeast Alabama.

Submission Guidelines:

Eligibility: The anthology is open to all individuals who were born, raised, or reside in Northeast Alabama, including but not limited to the following counties: Calhoun, Cherokee, Etowah, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Limestone, Cullman, Blount, and DeKalb.

Content: Submissions must be original and not previously published. We encourage pieces that speak to the local experience, whether through reflection on the natural landscape, culture, history, or personal narratives.

Poetry: Submit up to 3 poems, no more than 5 pages total, as a Microsoft Word document.

Prose: Submit one short story or essay, no longer than 3,000 words, as a Microsoft Word document.

Visual Art: Submit up to 3 images of original works. High-quality digital files (jpeg, png, tiff, or gif) are required.

Formatting: All written submissions must be typed and formatted in 12-point font, Times New Roman, with standard margins. Visual art should be submitted as high-resolution digital files. Work must be submitted as an email attachment, not pasted into the body of an email. Files should be titled with the submitter’s first and last name and the medium, for example, “JohnSmithPoetry.”

How to Submit: Please send all submissions to northeastalanthology@gmail.com with the subject line "Northeast Alabama Anthology Submission - Your Name and the Medium.” Include a brief bio (50-100 words) in the body of the email and, for visual art, a short description of the piece(s).

Important Dates:

Submission Deadline: March 1, 2026

Notification of Acceptance: June 1, 2026

Anticipated Publication Date: Fall 2026

Compensation: All contributors whose work is selected will receive a complimentary copy of the anthology.

North Meridian Press is eager to bring together the creative voices of Northeast Alabama in this exciting project and look forward to seeing your work.
